English Budgie Questions & Answers

Read on for questions and answers about English budgies.

My English budgie doesn't take well to baths, and my house hit 82 in the middle of the night last night with no lights on. What can I do to keep him cool? I cover him every night, but I'm afraid to.

As i have a decent size avairy and i'm just starting to breed english budgies is it all right to have them as i was thinking of 4 pairs and i have 5 nesting boxes.

If I were to breed an English/Exhibition budgie with an American/pet budgie , how many generations of mixing their offspring with only English/Exhibition budgies would it take for the offspring look fully (or almost completely fully) like an English/Exhibition budgie in size, body shape, and feathering. Please, people with either experience or knowledge of the subject. Preferably only educated guesses, please. By the way- I know it's possible because it's been done before when there was mutations found only in "pet"/American type budgies an they wanted to get them onto English budgies. Also when I breed them, I will choose the most English/Exhibition type looking offspring to breed, so I won't just be choosing random offspring. And also, is there any reason why this would be unrecommended. I asked a question about breeding American and English budgies before and someone told me I shouldn't with no explanation and a link that didn't work. Here's the link to the question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Arg59OLOYErCCzc_iJlyv_wjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20080402204622AAEEdkY Don't worry Josie, the budgies will have a great home and owner.

I want a loving bird that's not too expensive. We used to have parakeets who were kind of a bore but now we want to try English Budgies because they're not that expensive and I hear they can talk, but what types of birds to you suggest for a 10 year old. Something that is entertaining and not too nippy at the touch.

I went to a petstore and saw cute and chubby English Budgies..(larger parakeets that can talk) but the salesman said they bite and they're not handfed. I'm confused...why sell it if they bite, I'm sure all birds do but he seemed like he didn't want to sell it and wanted me to buy an expensive cockatoo or a cheap regular parakeet. Help, I really want a budgie but not sure if it will attack my finger all the time or what?

they are english budgies i got them from a breeder he said they would be able to breed.they preen each other and the ffemale speend a lot of time in the breeding box.they eat budgie seed, cuttle fish, greens grains and grits, and water.wat am i doin wrong.or dont they like each other

breeders (that breed quality Exhibition-type budgies) in Southern California or that can ship to Southern California. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Should I not mix English budgies with American budgies? Also, will they have trouble mating because of size difference (male English might be too heavy for the female American). Also, if they were to mate and have mixed offspring, how would they look. If I were to choose their offspring tht looks the most English and mate it with another English, how would that look? P.S. I already know that English and American budgies are the same species and only of different breeds (bred for different purposes).

i have a female english budgie n a male lovebird.. the problem is they actually mated n the budgie layed egg.. so i am wondering will the egg hatch?// so far theres one egg but the budgie is already incubating it n the lovebird keep feeding the budgie.. will the egg hatch?? when they were babies, i placed them together untill now..mayb thats the reason why they mated since they are very close to each other..? hope would get a good answer since its rare.. and if it hatch, what bird is it? im very confused

...living in Los Angeles,CA. I am looking for a male albino English budgie/parakeet and I haven't even found ONE English budgie/parakeet in any pet store. Does anyone have any idea how I can get in contact with a breeder or aviary very specifically because I'm beginning to lose hope and it just seems impossible. The few people I found that sell English budgies are either on the other side of the state or country, or in another country but non ine Southern California, PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi i was wondering if its possible to cross breed an english and an aussie budgie...both same colour..white and blue??...because my male aussie budgie flew away a week ago..and just got an english budgie today..at first they seem interested in each other..but now it seems like they aint really interested...

like what two birds did they breed to get them, i want to get an english budgie too, just wondering ....they are but english budgies are about one head bigger than normal budgies and have different markings around the face thanks, i should have thought of that =3

My 3 year old bird always had a problem of keeping weight on. When he did gain it it wouldn't stay long. He was always nervous and didn't know how to interact with other birds. I had to seperate him because even my canaries at the time would beat up on him as well as my other English budgies. I did not have all of these birds at the same time. they also died. I got him at the same pet store as my two other canaries came from. All three of them died within 3 years of me having them. One I know died of a heart attack which isn't very uncommon in canaries. I just don't know why my English budgie died. I know the past week before he died he acted like he didn't recognize me. His character changed and he had this congestion in his lungs and sneezed every so often two days before he died, but his bowl movement was normal and he wasn't fluffed. He still jumped around the cage and ate. I am thinking it was a thyroid problem. There was nothing the vet could have done. He taken to her when he was a year old. *was, I meant. He was on medicine! Top line medicine! And it still didnt help. Dont put words in my mouth for calling you rude! Answer the question though without being so defensive! I have owned birds all my life and never had this problem, darlin! @mokingbird, go to hell. I dont have time for your stupidity you didn't know my bird. There is always one little yuppie such as your self to start trouble. I have no guilt for my bird dieing. You did not know his history. Get lost, child.

My english budgie's vent is clogged, it is red and very swollen. she is acting alot more friendly then usual and she wants me to hold her, I think it's because she's cold. So i'm holding her. The area around the vent has no feathers and there is a lot of green liquidy poo on the feathers that are there. I am cleaning this with lukewarm water along with the poo that comes out of her. Is there anything i can do? My parent's wont let me take her to the vet. Please help

I have an English Budgie named Blue, she is 4 years old, she can not possibly be laying eggs because she has never been in contact with a male. Her bum area is swollen and red, I have clean the area with lukewarm water. She can climb onto her perch but I fear she might be dying, I need help fast. My parents won't take her to the vet and I have no money so I can't either! What else can I do? :'( She is also being way more affectionate then usual. PLEASE HELP ME! Isn't 4 years a long time to finally lay an egg? She never has before.

I have a male parakeet. I would like a second for the same cage. Which is better together, 2 males, 2 females, or 1 male and 1 female? Thanks!

I have a 2 year old lineolated parakeet (Gyspy)which shares a large aviary type cage with 4 English budgies and 3 American Budgies (1 female, 6 males). They all get along well yet there has been no indication of her pairing up with one of the budgies though she has taken a liking to Ziggy (he has not really shown interest but deals with her dancing around him). I know that a budgie and a Linnie cannot mate, however, I woke up this morning to find hat Gypsy has laid an egg. She has a bed she sleeps in and it would seem she stuck her bottom out and laid the egg which fell to the ladder below and cracked. She, nor any of the other birds, paid any mind to it. My question is, should I be seperating her from the others? What else should I be doing to try to ensure she stops laying eggs ot that remains healthy during this time. Temperature, Food recommendations etc. would be welcome as well. Should I remove that little bed as well, which she goes in to sleep. Just adding the details that it is only 1 Lineolated Parakeet and the rest in the cage are budgies. Could the eggs be fertile? I thought there was no way as I thought that these two different species bird cannot mate....am I wrong?

and i dont mean american or english. i mean like out of spangle and all those ones. this is the first one: http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/karma-iris/DSC04419.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/karma-iris/DSC04394.jpg and this is the second http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/karma-iris/DSC04294.jpg

I caught her breaking off pieces of paint from a decorative bird cage and eating it. She seems to be alright. Does any one know if the paint could be toxic?

2 of my English Budgies were in a nest box and started fighting one of the birds blood feather was broken open and it looks pretty bad. I don't want her to die, also do pet shops take back birds? (they had babies last april) she died thanx anyway I hate my life :'(

i want some budgie breeders in illinois.preferebly near champaign.give me links.not english budgies

I have a blue regular sized parakeet and a blue Big-Headed (English Budgie) parakeet in the same cage as my green parakeet. The blue ones always bite the green one until it falls off the swing or stick. Another friend had a blue and green and she said the same thing about the blue one attacking the green one until the green one had an opportunity to escape and fly away. Poor thing. Also, growing up, my family had a green one so tame so we got him a blue one for company (female) and that one did nothing but bite and was always scared of everything. What is it with mean, blue parakeets always scared of anything and everything?

I have been in search of an unrelated pair for some time now and would rather pick up than have them shipped.

I have an albino English budgie. She is a little over a year old and shes been in the same cage with a green English budgie who is 21/2. For the most part they have always gotten along. Until recently, she'll go after him and peck at him no matter where he sits around the cage. Then when he eats she will go down to the food cups and start fighting with him again. He is a very sweet bird so he doesn't really fight back. Any advise?

My English Budgie is 4 years old. She is eating as much as she usually is, but is losing weight. Her stool is normal, and she isn't acting any differenty. Is she just getting old? Should I bring her to the vets?

ok i have heard that saliva can be poisonus to birds, so if you take a sip from a water bottle then use the same water bottle and fill your parakeets water dish, would that be poisonus? and also, i got my bird from a lady who bred birds but had to move so i got her for free (shes an english budgie) so, i put gravel in and fresh fruit in with her seeds and i also give her a cuttle bone and spray millet, she will not touch either cuttle bone or spray millet and i have vitamen stuff to put in her water but when i do put it in her water, she wont drink. will not eating cuttlebone or spray millet or not having vitamens in her water, affect her health? please help, im worried. thanks! so gravel kills birds? i have been giving her gravel for like a year now...

Do they need to be a certain type of budgie? All the budgies I've seen talk on Youtube were English budgies. Any pointers?

I've got qualifications in biology and metalwork. So if you need someone to weld your budgie. I'm your man. Little Johnny's teacher is quizzing them about the alphabet 'Johnny,' she says. 'What comes after "O"?. Johnny says 'Yeah?' Professor, to medical student: 'What happens when the human body is immersed in water?. Student: 'The telephone rings.' Teacher to class: 'Can anyone tell me, what happens to a car when it gets old and starts to rust?' Johnny: 'My dad buys it.' Teacher to Johnny: 'Where is the English Channel?' Johnny: 'I don't know, my TV doesn't pick it up that channel.' Teacher, 'Johnny give me a sentence starting with "I". Johnny replies, 'I is......' Teacher interups, 'No, Johnny, Always say "I am." Johnny replies 'Okay, I am the ninth letter of the alphabet' Teacher to Johnny. 'If you added 4,302 to 3,804, divided by 4, then multiplied it by 3, what would you end up with?' Johnny: 'The wrong answer.'

...recorded on a label owned by a major label, and a chain English pubs? The engineer/producer was a well known musician and scholar of 1950's country / rockabilly. Name the band! Name the engineer / producer! Name the label! The band had a sound that was somewhere between 'Budgie', 'The Pink Faries' and the 'Groundhogs', very much in the style of the early 70's UK scene. Mt apologies once more! This is the 2nd time I've posted this question. I let it go to voting last time, and the answer chosen was incorrect.

What makes you think I'm not still locked up? I don't come up for parole 'till 2012. Matthew J - I've heard everything by Blur, and I guess their earlier stuff is OK in a Bowie/Mott the Hoople sort of way. I don't see any similarities between them musically, and the bands I've mentioned above, or the South Hampton band in question though.

I have absolutely fallen in love with the English budgie. I would love to own a purebred English budgie, but I do not know of any breeders in north Texas. Does anyone know of a breeder in this area? Thank you

where she puts her head foward and opens and closes her beak, almost as if she was swallowing air. What does this mean?

My english budgie Blue has a crusty like substance on her nose (the part above the beak, I don't know what it is scientifically called). Around 3 months ago it curved upwards and then just broke off, no harm done. Is this like mucus coming out of her nose and drying up?? Right now her nose looks almost normal just crusty. What can i do to help her?

I have a beautiful white English budgie. I have had her for 3 months and in those three months I have been training her. It hasnt been working, she still bites and screams and when I let her out to fly she would panic and crash into things. I finally just went and cut her wings. She sat there with her wings open after they got cut. I was actually able to hold her now and kiss her and put her on my shoulder after doing so. She is probably in shock. I just feel bad I dont like seeing my poor animals upset. She is between 8 to 10 months old. So, my q is she will be alright, now? I had another bird when I was younger who I raised since I was 9 and finally passed away at the age of 12 when I was 23. That was a few years back I have just forgotten how to train birds all over again.

the wood off of her perch? I am watching her and she is literally pulling shavings of the wood apart. Yeah thats smart so she gets eaten by my cat or breaks her neck. Real smart. Shes a baby and panicke's. @cuttermk, I have been raising birds since I was young. YOU need some damn therepy!! Cant answer my q then screw off! I can honestly say you must be jealous! Where does it any where in my damn q give you the idea that I would hurt my bird?? You are obviously jealous.

I asked a lady in a pet store that focused on birds once and she said it was possible as english budgies are just larger parakeets. She wasn't sure about the outcome however. So their children are gangly looking rather than just being midsize between a US parakeet and an English budgie?

I have had her for four days now. She was really talkative, except now she seems to be doing a lot more sleeping over the two day period. She eats, talks and interacts with the other English Budgie. Its just seemed like it has declined recently. Is this common for, being that she is only six months? Shes a BIRD, not a dog.

My boyfriend surprised me with her. I have a green English budgie who's name is Baby Goliath, being that he is so big.Any ideas to name her?

my english budgie is new to the home he is only three weeks out of his nest he is eating really good but not very active. I am worried because he bounces his tail up and down alot someone told me that this could mean he has a cold does any one know why he may be doing this. I don't think he is old enough to want to mate yet. He seems to be getting around ok, and he has not fluffed up his feathers yet. The only thing i really notice is the small bobbing of the tail. Thanks for all the responses I will keep a close eye on him if she seems like he may be sick i will call the avian vet who's number is listed in the phone book. i have heard such good things about her. thanks again everyone. I love this web-site and how fast people responded.
